The importance of small things.
Folks may remember that we did a transpiration lab this year in AP. We used pansies. Almost as an afterthought, one of my students took one of the more haggard-looking plants from the flat home (it would have gone in the trash otherwise).
That was a while back now. The above picture came through the email today.
I know that the AP Biology Teaching Community can often get lost in the details of the exam, "student performance", and all the other things that we sometimes confuse for significance. It seems to me that all of that is vastly less important than things like what this picture represents. These things are so easy to overlook in all of the other business of teaching kids, but they are where I try to put my own notions of what good education looks like.
I encourage you all to do the same.
Have a great long weekend, friends!
